Colourfence – Cream Metal Fencing plus Trellis

The original fence at Irene and Malcolm’s was a hodge podge of materials that had been added to over the years, to make it kid proof, as kids had historically kicked sections of the fence in to retrieve their footballs! Malcolm expressed a desire that a new fence should be ‘kid proof’. Alan and his team, knew that Colourfence was the answer as the panels are metal, they are robust enough to deter would be fence kickers. As they are metal, they are also pretty much maintence free, so Malcolm and Irene won’t have to worry about putting a new treatment on the fence in a few years’ time, which they would no doubt have to, if we had chosen a timber fence for them.

Our goal was to give Irene & Malcolm fencing that is attractive and remains fit for purpose without costly and time consuming annual treatments. Furthermore, they will get full peace of mind as ColourFence is guaranteed for 25 years.

Panels are 2.35m in width rather tha n the standard 1.8m and can be cut to any height or width on site.

ECODEK – Welsh Slate

Due to Malcolm’s failing health and Irene’s busy charity workload, we wanted to include as many low maintenance materials in the garden as possible, so Alan and his team turned to, Ecodek, a solid composite decking manufacture. Solid composite decking is more attractive than plastic decking and is low maintenance and the model we chose, has anti slip properties too, which is perfect for Malcolm.

Ecodek – a carbon negative company – established in 2002, have been manufacturing composite decking and fencing since 2004. As the UK’s market leader in Wood Polymer Composite decking materials, they have manufactured over 1 million linear metres of decking in 2017, consuming 3600 tonnes of recycled wood and plastic. As they upcycle their raw materials, approximately 95% of its composition is material that has been used before. When used in the wood polymer composite decking those materials perform and behave in every respect as well as virgin materials.

Gabriel Ash – Hyde Hall Glasshouse

We realised that Malcolm still liked to potter in greenhouse when we went to see him, so we decided a brand new greenhouse, would be more in keeping with his new garden, so we turned to our old friends at Gabriel Ash, who manufacture beautiful buildings. All their greenhouses are hand crafted by joiners on the bench in their Cheshire workshop. They put faith in time honoured skills, age old joinery techniques that give their greenhouses strength and integrity.

We chose their Hyde Hall building, named after the RHS Garden near Chelmsford in Essex. It measures almost eight foot in width by 10 foot 3 inches in length. The Hyde Hall comes with full length ridge ventilation which opens automatically with the aid of wax filled pistons – a feature standard to Gabriel Ash greenhouses. The 45 degree roof pitch not only gives the greenhouse a look reminiscent of the Victorian Greenhouses but makes for a generous cubic air capacity within the glasshouse. With a greenhouse from Gabriel Ash the options are many and varied but the object is always the same: to benefit from the highest possible return from your garden. Only Gabriel Ash greenhouses are endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society. As with all the structures in the RHS Greenhouse range, the Hyde Hall can be made to sit on a dwarf wall instead of the cedar panels.

Rawlinson Garden Products – Clarendon Summer House

Irene expressed a desire to have an outdoor space, where she could do her charity work and thus free up space in her actual house for. Alan and his team approached the great people at Rawlison (another Cheshire firm) to see if they could help and when they heard about Irene’s losses and what she does for charity, they jumped at the chance of helping us.

We selected the Clarendon Summerhouse from Rowlinson Garden Products. Based on a classic Victorian design the Clarendon with its hipped roof, it has generous roof height and bags of style for outdoor entertaining. With plenty of room for furniture, fling open the double-doors and enjoy life to the full. The product comes in a natural timber finish, but we painted it in colours to match the rest of the garden.

Majestic Trees – Acer palmatum ‘Deshojo’

We wanted to create instant impact in Irene & Malcolm’s garden, whilst also screening their garden from the neighbouring houses. We selected a lovely Acer palmatum ‘Desholo’ as it produces year round interest and an amazing focal point. ‘Deshojo’ makes a stunning small tree which adds interest to the garden for months on end. Its five-lobed leaves are a brilliant shade of shrimp pink when they unfurl in spring, turning to green during summer, and finally scarlet in autumn.

Majestic Trees delivered the trees bright and early and brought their amazing 3 wheeled telehandler, which proved invaluable in planting the tree too, this is an additional service offered by Majestic Trees.

This Acer retails at £1800. Majestic Trees have thousand of different trees for sale and for more information, please go to
