Inspirational Locations – Episode 6 Tuesday 28th August 2018

Today we visited a wonderful suburban garden in Sutton Coldfield designed by G Scapes, a local family run business established in 1973 by Malcolm and Elizabeth Gee, and later inherited by sons Robert and Daniel. This garden provided the perfect inspiration for Fiona’s courtyard garden in the heart of Nottingham; giving Alan and his team lots of ideas for the garden. Although a sizeable garden, this garden contained lots of features that could be deployed in a garden a quarter of the size; with its three relaxing seating areas, interconnecting circular lawns and a winding path that provided a less direct route throughout the garden so as not to reveal the whole garden at once. Pretty, yet simplistic, with a limited use of materials and colours, but with an emphasis on vertical structures to break up a view or frame it, were all rules that were deployed in Fiona’s garden build, from a interconnecting rectangle pathway, to vertical interest in the form of upright timber boards  create much needed separate rooms for Fiona’s foster children.
