BSW Timber

We wanted to create a rustic feel to this garden and as such we decided to use upright sleepers for retaining the beds. BSW brushwood timber sleepers were perfect as they are beautifully textured, due to been shot blasted, to bring out the natural grain, they naturally fit well into the garden. To also compliment the theme we used BSW timbers Habitat shale composite decking, an attractive low-maintenance alternative to timber decking.
Made using a specially developed mix of recycled plastic and wood flour components, their wood composite decking is an attractive alternative to traditional timber decking.

Strong and durable, wood composite decking provides a low-maintenance, long-lasting solution that will not warp, splinter or rot. With a range of contemporary colours, it offers the opportunity to create a modern, luxurious outdoor space.

All their wood composite decking is environmentally friendly, being manufactured from 95% recycled plastic and timber materials. Both of their wood composite decking products carry guarantees, giving peace of mind after installation. WPC decking is quick and easy to fit – and the hidden fixing clips ensure a smooth, barefoot-friendly surface.

Habitat Hollow Wood Composite boards have a lightweight construction and are reversible, with narrowly spaced grooves on one side and an embossed wood grain effect on the other. Both sides provide a robust and durable surface. It is available in the following colours: charcoal, graphite, stone and shale.
BSW Timber is the UK’s largest sawmiller, BSW supplies a wide array of sawn timber to fencing, landscaping and construction industries.

Earth Wright’s Teepee Adventure Trail

The vision for this design was to create a play space that would meet a variety of play needs for Molly, Daniel and Mairwen’s different ages and preferences. So, active, physical challenges, as well as opportunities for imaginative play and relaxing, and space enough to be in different parts of the garden when playing separately. It was also important to make the space accessible for Chris so he can see and interact with his children.
From the back gate the wheelchair accessible path leads right underneath a tepee shaped tower set around the big acer. The tower wraps around it without touching, and is designed so that it looks and feels as if it is encasing the tree.
The teepee tower holds two spaces, each on different floors. The ground level is easily accessible and leads to the lower room, big enough to accommodate an adult or several children.
A wooden climbing wall leads to the top level, which – due to the tapering shape – offers a cosy tree house den for hanging out or sleepovers.
The upper deck allows kids to be pretty high off the ground creating an exciting hide out or viewing tower.
The tower is designed so you can climb up and around it in many different ways. On one side a wooden climbing wall leads up to a hatch, giving access to the top floor. Right around the back next to the tree trunk is a wobbly climbing wall made out of a recycled coal conveyor belt.
From the lower deck a round portal leads out onto a log climbing tangle. The tangle allows you to climb in either direction back round the walls onto the sides of the teepee or you can climb across to reach a platform made from a slice of tree trunk.
From there a slide reaches down to the lower part of the garden, under the shade of a magnolia tree.
Leaving the tower in the other direction, a net tunnel links across to the higher terrace, which features a small lawn surrounded by logs and sensory planting. In addition, two traversing ropes connect to a hang out net – a rectangular frame set at an angle which is perfect for lounging and watching the clouds go by. From here you can overlook the whole garden.

Hopes Grove nurseries – Instant Hedging

We wanted to define areas of the garden, not only with hard landscaping, but also soften with hedging. We chose Portuguese laurel along the path edge and Griselinia along the grass and bank edge, both will give all year round structure, softening to the hard landscaping and giving instant formality to the garden. As well as this, we had an area at the back of the garden, that was in view from passers by and therefore we required an instant boundary line that hid the new garden. Hopes Grove Nurseries provided 9 foot tall instant beech hedging, that immediately when planted concealed the garden, giving privacy to Chris and the family to enjoy their new tranquil space!

Hopes Grove nurseries are hedging plant specialists. They are based in Kent and have a 50 acre nursery.  Plants supplied direct to the end user only (not garden centres) so nursery pricing will be very hard to beat.  Hedging can be bought as bare root all the way through to instant hedging.
